Andalucía (3): Córdoba

This is the continuation following the post Andalucía (2): Granada.

Córdoba - 15.-16.05.2013:

At around 1 p.m. we reached the third city during our Andalucía tour: Córdoba. Here we had planned to stay only one night. Thus, we packed "everything" (=most of) that was to do in Córdoba into this day's afternoon.
Our hotel was placed right beneath the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, also called la Mezquita, and like the Alhambra listed as UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a medieval Islamic mosque that was converted 1236 into a Catholic Christian cathedral. The mosque is regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture. Since the early 2000s, Spanish Muslims have lobbied the Roman Catholic Church to allow them to pray in the cathedral.

After the visit of the Mezquita we strolled for some hours through the streets of Córdoba, discovering the town.

Dinner time. Tapas - of course!

We didn't wanna head straight back towards the hotel after dinner. We used some time to see Córdoba by night. The river turned out to offer a great, lit panorama.

As mentioned, we had only booked one night in Córdoba which is why the next morning we already hit the road again, making our way towards Sevilla.

To be continued with post Andalucía (4): Sevilla.
