During my Christmas and New Year's holidays in Germany I spent one great day in
Mainz. For December 29th my mum had organised a
family visit in Mainz where
we had some relatives living. My family with aunts, uncles and cousins
is pretty big on my mum's side, but not everyone is living close by,
some actually living abroad as well. So of course it was unfortunately
not possible to get them ALL to meet up on that day, especially
since this was a rather spontaneous meeting. It had just started by
asking to visit one uncle and 2-3 nearby living cousins. And then came a
"let's ask also XY to join" and a "hey, why not asking also so and
so" and "and maybe XX could make it was well to come to Mainz"... So in the end we were some 22/25 people meeting for brunch at the
"
Heiliggeist", a historical building, a former infirmary from
the 13th century, in the old town of Mainz. A really cool place to have breakfast!
After brunch at around 2 p.m. we left the "Heiliggeist" and were led by my uncle Martin for some sightseeing through the town of Mainz.
The Mainz Cathedral.
The world's biggest and most precise hour glass. It turns every hour.
The sightseeing ended at my uncle Martin's flat, where he hosted us for coffee, biscuits/cakes, home made soup and some hours of fun and chatting.
Yummy yummy and apparently irresistable!
There's undoubtedly a musician living in this house - my uncle :-)
Not only for the little ones among us it seemed to be time to leave. Also we had to say goodbye and drive back home. I had my friend Audrey coming over for
New Year's (click here for the post) and I still had to pick her up at Cologne train station that evening.
It was a fantastic day! I love my big family, all my cousins, aunts and uncles. I like them all, each and every single one of them! And it's such a pity that we don't manage to see each other more often. However, I was really happy to meet at least some of them. So thanks for coming to: my uncle Martin and my aunt Marina, aunt Ebeth and uncle Dani, my aunt "Plimmi", my cousins Anne-Marie, Tim, Beni, Alex, Annette with her husband Daniel and kids and Christoph with his wife Heike and kids :-) Thanks for making this a great day!
And special thanks to Martin for organising the "Heiliggeist", for the little tour around Mainz and having us all over at your place :-)
