Oslo --> Lillehammer/Öyer (ca. 210 km)
It's on the 12th of August that we leave Oslo and head off towards Lillehammer, host site for the Olympic Winter Games in 1994 with a short stop at Hamar Olympiahallen. The Vikingskipet Olympic Arena, as it is also called, is an indoors speed skating facility in Hamar - one of the venues built for the 1994 Winter Olympics. The name means "the Vikingship" as the roof construction of the arena makes it reminiscent of a vikingship turned upside down.
Arrived in Lillehammer we have half an hour free time for strolling through the village's main street...
... and taste some reindeer and elk "pølse" (nor.= sausage) before taking down the 900 steps aside the ski jump. You might remember me having been already at (the bottom of) the ski jumps when we were on the way back from our Besseggen trip at the end of June this year.
We proceed to Öyer, gate to the valley of Gudbrandsdal, for the overnight stay at the Hafjell Hotel & Aparments:
As they forgot to book my room they gave me a suite upon arrival. Quite nice I have to admit:
When looking out of the window I could see this Olympic torch-bearer cut into the forest:
