Swimming at Sognsvann

This is the start of a fantastic weekend...

...and the start for Tim participating in the Oslo Triathlon.

Tim, the guy I met here from my little unknown town Meckenheim, has a hobby - quite a sporty/athletic one actually: triathlon! Only a couple of weeks ago he participated in the tirathlon in Hamburg and this Saturday we had the Oslo one taking place right out of town at the lovely lake Sognsvann.
The weather forecast being pretty good, Jana and I met with our bikes at to go up to Sognsvann and cheering on Tim.

First discipline was 1.5 km swimming in the lake. Unfortunately we arrived only at 12:05, i.e. 5 minutes after the start signal so we missed the start. Because of that we didn't see Tim starting and since all those athlets in those neoprene suits and bathing caps all look the same (like lemmings) we later couldn't figure out where in the crowd he was let alone when he was done.

The run for the second round of swimming.

Even when coming out of the water we couldn't identify him. Waiting until even the last one finished and wondering if Tim would really end up being last (we couldn't imagine) we even considered that Tim backed out and decided at last minute not to participate anymore.

Since we waited until the last coming out of the water we missed the change of all onto the bikes for a 40 km ride to Maridalsvannet. We only saw the athlets again when coming back from their bike tour...

...among them also Tim. He jumped into his running shoes and off for the last part: 10 km running around the lake Sognsvann...

... and finally crossing the "mål", the finishing line.

Well done!

Well, while 250/300 others were swimming/cycling/running for the first place and the gold medal, Jana and I benefitted from the weather turning into an extremely sunny day.

The water wasn't cold and the sun so strong that we took out our towels and bikinis. We HAD to go swimming. It was too lovely and warm for not enjoying a swim in this fantastic surrounding.

What a pity that this day turned to an end! Could have stayed there for hours and hours enjoying the atmosphere.
However, the forecast for the next day was also very promising. So we organised a day on the beach. Have a look at the next post.
