Fornebu excursion by bike

It's sunday... and so we planned another excursion. Nothing big or special, but something to get out of the house.
The old airport of Oslo was formerly located in Fornebu. Fornebu is a peninsular area in the western part of Oslo. After the closing down of the Oslo Airport Fornebu and the opening of operations at the new airport in Gardermoen in October 1998, the whole Fornebu area is being developed as a centre for information technology and telecommunication industry. Also some nearby housing project developments were going on since the turn of the millennium and in the last year they have created a recreational area around the old airport area.

Well, and that was the destination we aimed for this sunday. We decided to meet up with the bikes at my place at around 2 p.m. We then cycled the 8km via Skøyen to Lysaker and further to Fornebu. Though we got a little lost on the way down there, we passed some really nice areas, especially from a residential point of view: one villa after the other, with pools outside, huge gardens... Unfortunatley we also had to stop on our way for about 10 minutes at a bus stop to find some shelter from the super heavy rain that suddenly came down.

We eventually made it to Fornebu, however the "landskapsparken Fornebu" didn't hit me. The whole area wasn't too nice. Still too industrial in my opinion. The park area also looked totally abandoned and empty. But maybe that was also the fault of the weather which made everything look a bit grey and dark.

In the end we also didn't stay long. We just cruised a little around the area with the biked and then made our way back to Oslo. There wasn't too much more to see in Fornebu and I still had plans for the early evening.
On the way back I took the occasion to take a picture of the King's ship. Some Royals had been out with it already the whole day.

In the early evening I had an appointment with Lisanne, a Dutch trainee at Haman Scandinavia. I wanted to pick up again the search for some place for latin dancing in which Lisanne also seems to be interested. We had found a spot we decided to try out.
