She arrived on Tuesday 19th of March in the evening, just on time to have a nice dinner with Marco and me before leaving already the next morning for a little tour to the fjords.
I had to work and only took of Friday and Monday, so Giulia used the days I was in the office to discover a little bit of Norway. On Wednesday she took the classical and very beautiful "Norway in a Nutshell" tour [click here for more information] allowing to explore many different kinds of Norwegian landscape on a trip from Oslo to Bergen. After two nights in Bergen Giulia flew back to Oslo so we could spend the weekend together before she had to leave again on Monday.
Marco unfortunately wasn't in Oslo that weekend. He went to Bologna to his brother's gradutation. So it turned out to be a "girls weekend" - a very nice one :-) The weather was suuuuuuuper beautiful all days long and we simply had a great time!
Friday evening:
Some city sightseeing at night followed by typical Norwegian dinner at "Olypmen" restaurant.
Saturday:
We were mainly just walking walking and walking around town, showing Giulia Oslo strolling through the various areas of Oslo.
At the Akerselva river, right next to our flat.
At Vigeland Sculpture Park in Frogner:
Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen:
The Opera:
After visiting the opera we had to rush a bit as we still had to prepare for the evening. Jana had invited us and Audrey over for dinner - yummmy dinner (as usual)!
Sunday:
Another beautiful day, this time filled with a lot of speed on the tobogganing track "Korketrekkeren".
Before heading to the 1952 Winter Olypmics tobogganing track, Giulia and I stopped at the Holmenkollen ski jump - to enjoy the first ice cream of the year, with sunshine and a beautiful view over the Oslofjord.
And soon we were ready for the adventure - rushing on the sleigh all the way down to Midstuen where you board again the metro that brings you up to Frognerseteren again for another ride :-)
Go, Giulia, go!
Tobogganing with fjord view: magnificient!
Back on the metro on the way up again for one last ride down...
...before ending the fun day with a hot chocolate and a cake at Frognerseteren cafeteria.
What a great and fun day!
Monday:
I was off on Monday, so we started this "work-free" day relaxed and with American breakfast at the American restaurant at the corner of our street. On the menu: omelet, toast and pancakes :-)
After breakfast we took the boat out to the peninsula Bygdøy with its many museums. We didn't have time (and motivation) to visit them all, but we had a quick visit of the Fram museum with its polar ship and later on also of the Viking Ship museum.
After a couple of hours, though, we already had to turn around, back to Oslo city to get Giulia's suitcase. She had to catch the shuttle bus to Rygge airport for her flight back.
Thanks Giulia for coming over and visiting us here in Oslo! It was a real pleasure and I hope you enjoyed it :-)
