Marco and I on tour in Norway - Day 1

Saturday 1 May: Stavanger - Lysefjord

Good morning!

Our day in Stavanger starts with a huge Scandinavian breakfast buffet at the hotel.

Shortly after we leave the hotel, pass by the nearby little lake in town...

... and walk over to the Skagenkai.

Here leaves our boat that takes us on a 3 hours fjord cruise on the Lysefjord, famous for the Preikestølen ("Pulpit Rock"), a massive cliff 604 metres above the fjord.

We finally arrive at the Preikestølen. The top of the cliff (at 604 m.a.s.l.) is approximately 25 x 25 sqm and almost flat and is a famous and one of the most visited natural tourist attractions in Norway. There is a 3.8 km trail from the Preikestølen Fjellstue (mountain lodge) through different mountain landscapes. A trip to Preikestølen from the closest car park takes about 3-4 hours for a round trip hike. It is very steep in places.
Unfortunately, Marco and I didn't have the time for this hike. Well... another time then.
At least we saw it from the bottom...

... which is definitely not as impressive as the view from the platform on the top!

My colleague Franck actually hiked up there recently. Have a look at his video:

Back in town we walk from Skagenkai...

...over to Gamle Byen, the Old Town of Stavanger, filled with charming white wooden houses.

And here pictures from a stroll through the city centre, the shopping district of the town.

Since it is1 May all shops are closed and thus the streets quite empty. But it is still lovely to see those coloured wooden houses right in the heart of the city.

A sunny, but very windy day comes to an end. We go to bed and see you again tomorrow.
