Birthday visitors

End of September, the 27th, it's my birthday and this year I could look forward to some visitors from home and from Italy :-)
Marco already arrived already the Tuesday before my birthday, on 21/09. It was so nice to see him again after more than 8 weeks. Though I was always busy, away, travelling, i.e. a lot of things happened since he left from his last visit to Oslo in the beginning of August, it was really time to see him again now! We enjoyed the time being together and by the end of the week also my father with his wife Andrea arrived.

On Saturday we took my car and drove up to the Holmenkollen ski jump which is still under construction for the Nordic World Ski Championship held in Oslo in the end of February/beginning of March 2011. The weather was certainly not nice, but my car was happy to be moved again.

On our way back we also stopped at the nearby "Holmenkollen kapell", right when a wedding celebration was taking place.

Of course we also didn't miss out the lookout from Frognerseteren which offers a great view over the Oslofjord.

On Sunday 26/09, we decided to make use of the Oslo City Bikes and cycle over to the peninsula of Bygdøy and pay a visit to the Norsk Folkemuseet, one of Norway's largest museums of cultural history featuring the world's oldest open air museum and large indoor collections.
It was a really nice and sunny, warm Sunday: perfect day for this stroll through history.

We drive back alongside the waterfront and the Oslo marina with all its boats. It's a really nice drive between my apartment and Bygdøy, only about 15-20 minutes by bike.

On Sunday night we have been playing again the board game "the Settlers of Catan" for hours and hours - as we did already the evenings before. I (or actually WE) looooooooove this game. I haven't played it now for ages and since my father and Andrea rented an apartment from the close by Frognerhouse Apartments, we had the space and time to play until late during the nights, one game after the other :-)

So we played also on Sunday night 26/12 until at midnight Marco, my father and Andrea surprised me with a birthday song and presents. We had some more wine, clinked glasses and enjoyed the rest of the evening.

On the day of my birthday, again a nice and sunny day, we planned to visit Oscarsborg Festning. Ocarsborg Fortress is a coastal fortress located in the Oslofjord, close to the small town of Drøbak. The fortress is situated on two small islets in the fjord and was military territory until 2003 when it was made a publicly available resort island. The fortress is best known for its sinking on 9 April 1940 of the German heavy cruise Blücher.
To satisfy my car's need to be moved once in a while, we took my little Clio and drove down the east side of the Oslofjord to Drøbak from where we took a little boat to the island and walked around the fortress.

Later in the afternoon we took the boat back to Drøbak...

...where we dropped in to this cosy place for having a coffee and some cake.

Right in front of this bar was the "Julehuset", Santa Clause's Christmas house, open all year round and stuffed with Christmas "thingies" of all kind. Unfortunately we passed 10 minutes after closing time...

We left Drøbak and drove back to Oslo, because in the evening I had reserved a table at Olivia Pizzeria. Mari was with us and we had a nice evening full of good food, wine and chats.

I had a really great day.
Unfortunately, Marco had to leave again on Tuesday and also my father and Andrea left again on Wednesday.

Thanks for coming!
