On May 24th the Norsk Veteranskibsklub organised its first tour through the Oslofjord with it's old steamer D/S Børøysund built in 1908.
Every summer season the sail out for a 2,5-hours tour through the fjord, every time under a different theme.
This season's first tour went under the theme "fyrsafari" (fyr = norwegian for lighthouse). Audrey heard about these tours as they are supposed to be a little different from the typical regular tourist excursions leaving from Aker Brygge.
So she had organised the tickets for her, Jana, Eric, me and 4 other people she knows.
We met up at 17:30 to go on board. Already before leaving the harbour, we figured out that we would be by far the youngest on this tour. The participants' average age I'd say was around 65/70 years :-)
But that was ok. We all together enjoyed the tour.
The staff on board - all old military people, maritime veterans - were really really friendly, very proud of their old steamer and were totally into in explaining us the functioning of this ship. We could have a look into each corner of the boat, including the engine room.
At around 20:30 we were back at Aker Brygge and despite not really having seen many "fyr", we had a nice time together. Doing something together is always better than just hanging around alone doing nothing.
