Café Sorgenfri

Tomorrow our friend Audrey is leaving for over two weeks for a long planned and dreamed of holiday in Argentina. Since we were all pretty busy lately with various commitments including travelling, we hadn't seen each other so often recently. This gave us rise to a get together before Audrey's departure.
We thought about trying a new place and decided on a dinner at Café Sorgenfri at Aker Brygge, offering classic cuisine combined with contemporary Scandinavian cooking within an atmosphere of nostalgic old-world charm, created by the huge collection of items and "stuff" from by-gone days decorating the whole restaurant.
Some time had passed since we had made our food order when a waiter brought us a platter of local cold cuts as starter "on the house" excusing the delay caused by a huge dinner group. However, we hadn't noticed the long time passing by as we were totally sunk in some good conversations when finally our main dish was served. We enjoyed some super delicous food: Jana had ordered some catfish with pickled beets, spinach, potato purée
and a red wine vinaigrette with chorizo and Audrey and I were struggling with this huge but super tasty and well-prepared braised lamb shank served with root vegetables and potato purée.
And as if we hadn't already eaten enough, we rounded off the evening with desserts ranging from a chocolate fondant and a chocolate macaroon to a warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream :-)

The food was excellent and definitely worth the money!

I think after that dinner Audrey had a good base for hiking and we assured that she wouldn't forget us during the next 16 days :-)
